Default tariff cap level: 1 April 2022 to 30 September 2022
The Default Tariff Cap came into force on 1 January 2019 – a temporary cap on standard variable tariffs and fixed term default tariffs. In August 2020, Ofgem announced that the Default Tariff Cap would continue to protect default prepayment meter customers after the CMA Prepayment Meter Price Cap expired at the end of 2020. In accordance with the licence requirements, we run an update process twice a year, to ensure the default tariff cap reflects changes in the cost of supplying energy.
On 3 February 2022, we published the cap levels that will come in to force for the eighth charge restriction period (“cap period”) from 1 April 2022 – 30 September 2022. The updated versions of the underlying models have also been published.
You can view all historical information and publications relating to the design of the cap on our policy pages for the default tariff cap.
