Artificial intelligence
Includes guidance, consultations and news on artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence (AI) can create efficiencies for energy bill payers, energy suppliers and the wider energy sector. It can help improve planning, management and real-time operation of the energy system, but it can have challenges and risks.
Ethical AI use
Read our guidance about how to use AI ethically in the energy sector.
AI regulatory laboratory (AI Reg Lab)
Regulatory laboratories, known as ‘Reg Labs’, are for energy sector companies and their innovation partners. AI Reg Labs will be of interest to energy sector licensees, market participants and operators of essential services.
Reg Labs are collaborative and will allow the practical application of the guidance and broader energy regulatory framework to be tested in a safe space.
Our AI Reg Lab is an informal discussion-based session where those taking part can:
- stress test hypothetical or real AI uses against our current guidance and the broader energy regulatory framework
- consider potential risks and impacts of their AI use
- discuss regulatory implications of the AI use with an independent panel of AI and regulatory experts
AI technical sandbox
An AI technical sandbox is a safe and controlled digital space to test artificial intelligence uses in the energy sector.
We are considering setting up an AI technical sandbox. This would help energy sector companies test AI tools in a safe and responsible way. It would also help us understand how to regulate AI while supporting innovation and protecting customers.
