Ofgem response to the government's announcement on electricity market reforms

Following today’s announcement by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) on reforms to the electricity system Ofgem has issued the following statement: 

“We welcome this decision on REMA which brings certainty and confidence for the future of the energy system. Ofgem continues to focus on investing to upgrade infrastructure, reforming the connections system so projects that are ready and needed can plug into the network quicker and acting to fast track major projects. We look forward to working with Government, NESO, the industry and consumer groups, to build a decarbonised system which will bring stability and protect consumers from international volatility and the rollercoaster effect that has on bills. We’ll be setting out our thinking on network charging reforms shortly.”
