Ofgem's role is changing

The Department for the Economy (DfE) and Ofgem have agreed a further extension to Ofgem’s administration of the scheme.

Ofgem will now continue administering the scheme under the existing regulations which includes issuing payments on quarterly meter reading dates that are due, up to and including, Friday 31 August 2026.

From 1 September 2026, Ofgem will begin transferring administrative responsibilities to DfE. After this date, Ofgem will only carry out limited activities required to complete payments and associated processes for quarterly meter readings dates ending on or before Friday 31 August 2026.

Ofgem will cease all administration of NI NDRHI scheme activities by Monday 30 November 2026. The previous date of Wednesday 30 September 2026 no longer applies.

This adjustment aims to ensure payments can continue to be made, and support remains available for participants, whilst DfE prepares for scheme transition and closure

Questions related to closure of the scheme should be directed to DfE at rhimanagement@economy-ni.gov.uk
