About the scheme

The Northern Ireland Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (NI NDRHI) was designed to increase the uptake of renewable heat technologies and reduce carbon emissions. The scheme closed to new applicants on 29 February 2016. 

Who runs the scheme 

The Department for the Economy is responsible for the policy and tariffs for the Northern Ireland Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive.  

Ofgem administers this scheme on behalf of the Department for the Economy. Our responsibilities include processing amendments made to accredited installations, managing accounts and processing payments. 

Use the Non-Domestic RHI Register to manage your account 

Existing participants may login to the Ofgem Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Register to:  

  • manage their account
  • amend accredited installations
  • submit quarterly periodic data
  • submit meter readings
  • let us know of changes to their installation 

If needed, you can also reset your password via the RHI Register.

Ofgem's role is changing 

By 30 September 2026 Ofgem will cease administration of the scheme and will handover all activities to the Department for the Economy (DfE).  

This follows an extension granted to the DfE, for Ofgem to continue administering the NI NDRHI scheme to support a seamless transition for participants, allowing the DfE more time to prepare for scheme administration and closure.  

What you need to do before the scheme transfers to DfE 

Ofgem will issue payments on quarterly meter reading dates that are due, up to Tuesday 30 June 2026.  

As a scheme participant you need to: 

  • submit your final meter readings on time
  • check your records are up to date
  • submit meter readings for any previous quarterly periods for which you have not submitted the data so far.   
  • notify Ofgem if there has been any change in circumstances affecting your RHI installation. 

Understand your final meter reading deadlines 

You must provide your meter reading within one calendar month of the date it is due. This is an absolute deadline.  

Example deadlines to help you plan  

If the date for your meter reading is  You have a deadline of one calendar month after the date to submit your meter reading 
1 April 2026  1 May 2026 
30 June 2026  30 July 2026 

The period from 1 April 2026 to 30 June 2026 will be your last opportunity to submit meter readings for previous quarterly periods you have not submitted.  

DfE issued an email to all participants on 23 February 2026 confirming your deadline dates. If you have not received this communication please contact DfE at dfemail@economy-ni.gov.uk 

Payments 

Ofgem has agreed to continue to administer periodic support payments, including on quarterly meter reading dates up to 30 June 2026.   

We will only begin to process payment once we have received the necessary data. 

We will continue to issue payments on quarter end dates up to Tuesday 30 June 2026. 

Keep your records up to date and submit your meter readings on time to ensure a smooth handover.  

Meter reading deadlines for final payments 

You will not receive payment for any meter readings submitted after the cut off date of 1 calendar month of your relevant date, between 1 April to 30 June 2026.
