Energy codes

Rules on companies working together in energy systems and retail.

Energy codes are rules on working together for suppliers, network, data and meter companies, enquiry lines and other code parties. They cover issues such as buying and selling energy, the switching process, measuring energy use and connections.

You can raise proposals to change codes if you are signed up to a code or it affects you. This is a process led by the industry bodies administering the codes.

Our role is to approve or reject changes that code bodies propose, called code modifications.

We're reforming the energy codes with the government, consulting on the proposals to make energy markets work better for consumers.
