Direction – distribution network voltage control services for NGET SO residual balancing

Electricity North West Limited (ENW) requested that the Authority confirm the regulatory treatment of costs and revenues associated with network voltage control and network management services to be procured by National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (NGET) for the purposes of its system operator residual balancing activity.
These services have been developed by ENW through the Customer Load Active System Services (CLASS) Low Carbon Network Fund project which demonstrated that these services can reduce the effective demand for electrical power.
This direction confirms that costs and revenues from these services are to be included in the ‘Valued Added Services’ category of Directly Remunerated Services.
Note that the system balancing services referred to in the direction are limited to those that are commissioned and paid for by NGET for the purpose of its system operator residual balancing activity.
