Connections and competition

We encourage competition in areas where this can make a positive difference for customers. We allow companies to develop and operate small, local electricity networks and encourage companies to compete to connect new customers to the networks. This should mean that customers connecting to the network get fairer prices and better service.

The small, local networks are owned and operated by Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs). The Electricity Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), IDNOs and Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) can all provide connection services.
