We are consulting on our project assessment of National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Sea Link project.
Consultation description:
National Grid Electricity Transmission’s (NGET) Sea Link project is a project under the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) mechanism in the RIIO-3 Price Control Framework. At the project assessment stage, we review and ultimately set the revenue and outputs associated with the delivery of an ASTI project.
Sea Link comprises a new 2GW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link between Suffolk and Kent, including converter stations at Saxmundham and Minster, offshore and onshore cable infrastructure, and associated transmission network reinforcements. The project is intended to increase transfer capability between East Anglia and the South East and support the connection of significant volumes of offshore wind and other low-carbon generation.
The existing transmission network in East Anglia requires reinforcement to accommodate the large volume of renewable generation expected to connect over the coming decade. Sea Link is intended to increase network capacity, reduce system constraints, support energy security and facilitate the delivery of the Government’s clean power ambitions, while enabling consumers to benefit from lower-cost renewable electricity.
