NOTICE UNDER SECTION 6A(5) OF THE ELECTRICITY ACT 1989 OF THE GRANT OF AN ELECTRICITY INTERCONNECTOR LICENCE
Pursuant to section 6A(5) of the Electricity Act 1989 (“the Act”), the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (“the Authority”) hereby gives notice that on 12 July 2023 an electricity interconnector licence was granted under section 6(1)(e) of the Act to National Grid Lion Link Limited (company number 14722364) whose registered office is situated at 1-3 Strand, London, WC2N 5EH, United Kingdom authorising it to participate in the operation of the Lion Link, an electricity interconnector between NGET’s 400kV Friston substation to be located at Ordinance Survey Grid Reference TM414613 in Great Britain and offshore grid connection into TenneT’s 2GW Programme offshore platform in the Netherlands
Note: An electricity interconnector licence authorises a person to operate an electricity interconnector. It is not an authorisation to construct the interconnector. Construction of the interconnector is subject to separate planning processes including the obtaining of any consents or permits required from relevant authorities, including the relevant planning authority.
Further, it is not an authorisation to operate the interconnector under any specific regime (i.e. merchant-exempt route or the cap and floor regime).
