Today we launched a new animated video to help consumers understand how our reforms for a simpler, clearer, fairer energy market will help them get a better deal on their energy bills.

The Simpler, Clearer, Fairer Video provides a step-by-step run through our recent retail market reforms, such as our ban on complex tariffs and the new standards of conduct on honesty and transparency which suppliers must follow so their customers are treated fairly.

We want all energy customers to understand that it is getting much easier to get a better deal on energy bills, and our video brings to life how the changes we are making can help bill payers across Great Britain.

The next stage of our reforms will come into force in April 2014. These will focus on making clearer the information provided by energy suppliers. Bills and annual summaries will improve to provide consumers with the information they need to understand their current tariff and compare it with others available in the market. Consumers will also receive details of the cheapest available tariff if they choose to stay with their current supplier.

Once all the reforms are in place, we will roll out a wider consumer-focussed campaign which will reinforce the impact of the recent changes and guide consumers through the steps they can take to get the best energy deal.
