Onshore transmission project delivery

Transmission projects approved and completed as part of our Strategic Wider Works mechanism

Previous projects

The following onshore transmission projects were assessed and for the most part approved as part of our Strategic Wider Works (SWW) or Transmission Investment for Renewable Generation (TIRG) mechanisms.

You can find a list of detailed documentation about these projects at the bottom of the page.

Transmission Investment for Renewable Generation (TIRG) projects

Transmission Investment for Renewable Generation (TIRG) was a mechanism designed to fund electricity transmission projects that are specific to connecting renewable generation. To minimise delays, funding of the TIRG projects operated outside the main price control process.

TIRG comprised four completed projects:

  • Beauly Denny, a project jointly delivered by Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Plc (SHE Transmission) and SP Transmission Limited (SPT)
  • Sloy, a joint project between SHE Transmission and SPT
  • South West Scotland, a project delivered by SPT
  • the Anglo Scottish Interconnector, a joint project between SPT and National Grid Electricity Transmission.
