What is the academic panel and why was it set up?
The panel was made up of twelve academics with a wide range of experience including regulatory economics, competition economics, behavioural economics, statistics and econometrics, and economic evaluation.
The aims of the panel:
- Enhance Ofgem's strategic thinking and early-stage policy development. The academic panel met twice a year to engage with SLT and advise policy teams on specific projects. The panel also provided advice on an ad hoc basis between meetings.
- Enable the organisation to build wider links to the academic community by highlighting relevant work and providing recommendations for engagement on specific projects.
- Improve knowledge exchange between Ofgem and the academic community through trainings, seminars and contributions to think pieces on policy issues.
