Future of retail market regulation – Senior Stakeholder Event – 6 October 2016

Agendas, minutes and presentations

On 6 October 2016 we held a senior stakeholder event on delivering the shift towards a greater reliance on principles in regulating the retail energy market. This event was attended by Dermot Nolan (CEO, Ofgem) and David Gray (Chairman, GEMA) and included senior representatives from suppliers, consumer groups, industry bodies and government.

This event followed on from our recent communications in our June open letter and August working paper where we committed to engaging senior stakeholders on our move towards a greater reliance on principles. In order to succeed, this will require a significant change in culture from the regulator, suppliers and our other stakeholders, owned and led at board level. This issue was discussed in more detail at the event.

Below is a note outlining some of the main themes that emerged from the event and the accompanying agenda.

We will continue to engage actively with stakeholders and are happy to hold bilateral discussions over the phone or in person. If you have any questions or further views relating to this work, please get in touch at FutureRetailRegulation@ofgem.gov.uk.
