In February 2016 we published the first supply chain plans for the FAB Link, IFA2, Viking Link and Greenlink interconnector projects. Today we are publishing the second iteration of the supply chain plans for the four projects. We think that these plans can help to encourage the development of a long-term sustainable supply chain for interconnectors. We intend for developers to also publish these on their relevant project websites.
In July and September 2015 we published our decisions to grant the FAB Link, IFA2, Viking Link and Greenlink interconnectors a cap and floor regime in principle, following our Initial Project Assessment of the projects. We noted that we will work with developers to provide a public supply chain plan for each project and that we will request updates to these plans every six months. Supply chain plans have been used successfully in other areas of energy infrastructure, most notably for contracts for difference (CfD) generation projects, to provide greater visibility and awareness in the supply chain.
On 27th September 2016 we held an interconnector development and supply chain event, jointly with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The event provided a forum for industry and government to discuss delivery challenges and to highlight the significant opportunities that interconnectors bring. We extended the deadline for this iteration of the supply chain plans to ensure that developers could reflect on this event in order to inform these submissions.
