Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

NDRHI Closure

The Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme (NDRHI) in Great Britain closed to new applicants on 31 March 2021, following a consultation by The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (“The Energy Department”, formerly the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy).

More information on this can be found on this page and in the guidance on closure.

In response to Covid-19, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy extended the deadline for commissioning for eligible tariff guarantee stage 2, stage 3, and extension applications from 31 March 2022 to 31 March 2023.

This extension was only applicable to applicants who had secured a tariff guarantee or an extension application.

Are there any circumstances where an application will be needed?

If you have replaced or relocated an NDRHI accredited installation, then you will need to submit an application for the installation to be re-accredited on the scheme when it is re-commissioned.

Please note: Per your ongoing obligations, you must inform us within 28 days of de-commissioning of the original plant

If your installation has been replaced, the replacement installation must meet the eligibility criteria set out in our guidance. Read chapter 12 of our Guidance Volume 2: Ongoing Obligations and Payments for full details.

Similarly, if you intend to relocate your installation, you will need to reapply to the scheme, providing the installation continues to meet the eligibility criteria at its new location.

In either scenario, payments will stop until the we’ve confirmed that the replaced or relocated installation meets the eligibility criteria. Full details of this process can be found in chapter 11 of our Guidance Volume 2: Ongoing Obligations and Payments.

Change of ownership

If you’re planning to sell your business with a renewable heating system already accredited on the NDRHI scheme and the new owner wants to take over the NDRHI payments, they can apply to receive the payments due for the remainder of the tariff term. From the date of sale, new owners have 12 months to notify us of the change and confirm that they wish to continue with the accreditation. Full details of this process can be found on our change of ownership webpage.
