Digitalisation

We encourage companies to invest in energy system digitalisation and future data needs.

For a net zero energy network to run at the lowest cost for consumers, we need better quality, more accessible data.

We want to make data more visible and usable across the entire energy network. This includes energy generation, transmission, distribution and supply, as well as how we use it.

Our energy network price controls encourage companies to invest in energy system digitalisation and future data needs.

Reliable and standardised energy data helps:

  • meet energy demand
  • reduce energy costs for consumers
  • reduce carbon emissions

Consumers need to trust that they can share their data safely so that energy companies make full use of the data.

We want consumers to have control over their energy data. This includes the ability to securely share their data with trusted energy companies.

In return, consumers could get:

  • lower bills
  • greener energy
  • better service

Data Sharing Infrastructure (DSI)

The DSI will help energy companies safely and efficiently exchange information, such as:

  • asset and planning data needed for strategic planning purposes
  • asset information needed to register assets to take part in flexibility markets

This makes it easier for them to innovate and work together.

Data Best Practice guidance

Our Data Best Practice guidance helps energy companies follow the rules around data in their licences.

The guidance explains how to share data from different systems across the energy sector.
