Arrangements to provide funding for transmission investment for renewable generation. Final proposals are expected in November 2004. The Government has a target for renewable generation to provide ten per cent of UK electricity in 2010 with a further aspiration to double this share by 2020. Renewable Obligation Orders were introduced in 2002 and 2004 to promote the development of renewable generation. Substantial volumes of new renewable generation plant are now under construction or in planning and it has become clear that investment will be required to strengthen and extend the transmission system, particularly in Scotland and potentially in Northern England.
