In the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s autumn 2013 statement, the government signalled an intention to reduce the cost to domestic energy consumers of its environmental and social schemes. As a part of this plan, the government is proposing a £12 annual “Government Electricity Rebate” (GER) to be paid to electricity customers in the autumns of 2014 and 2015. This reduction represents a partial refund of the cost of environmental schemes and charges.

This consultation sets out our proposal to enable the delivery of the Government Electricity Rebate by the Department of Energy & Climate Change through a licence modification. We outline the provisions of the proposed licence condition, and set out our envisaged role in its delivery. We welcome comments from all stakeholders and interested parties by 27 May 2014.

This consultation has closed and was not progressed further.
