The Cabinet Office has today published a report summarising the key outcomes from the Cutting Red Tape review in the energy sector.

The review, launched last summer, supports the government’s commitment to cut £10 billion of burdens on business and unlock productivity in the energy sector. The review identified a number of issues and DECC has committed to a programme of reforms that aims to simplify the way energy market works.

Our own commitment to better regulation

  • We’re committed to regulate the market more through general principles than prescriptions. This will ensure that energy suppliers who fail to put consumers at the heart of their business will face tougher action.
  • Our Simplification Plan sets out how we’ll reduce regulatory burdens on business. It includes commitments in key areas, such as code governance and our work with emerging and innovative business models.
  • Our Forward Work Programme pledge to streamline our approach to the Information Requests we send to industry. We’re working with DECC to achieve this and remove pressure on businesses.
