Change of Ownership (CoO)

If you wish to sell your Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive accredited installation as an ongoing asset on the NDRHI scheme, you are able to do so by filling in a Change of Ownership (CoO) form on the NDRHI Register. This will allow the new owner to receive the payments due for the rest of the tariff term. A single eligible technology (a biomass boiler, GSHP, ASHP, etc.) cannot be accredited on the NDRHI scheme for longer than 20 years, regardless of ownership.

E.g. If you were accredited on the NDRHI scheme in June 2018 and sold your biomass boiler to a new owner in June 2022 then you have received 4 years of the tariff term, therefore, the new owner (once re-accredited) will be able to claim the payments due for the remaining 16 years of the tariff term.

CoO With Relocation

If you have sold or transferred the ownership of your NDRHI accredited installation, the new owner is eligible to take over the NDRHI accreditation from the date of sale. If the installation has been disconnected prior to being relocated, you must inform us within 28 days of this significant change to your installation.

Provided there have been no further significant changes to the installation, ownership can be transferred first via the NDRHI Register. Simply log in online to submit your CoO form and our NDRHI Account Changes team will get in touch to request further information. You must then complete and sign a Notice of Final Meter Reading (NOFMR)form which must be emailed to us at RHI.Relocations@ofgem.gov.uk. This form records the final meter reading prior to decommissioning at the original site, therefore, the final payment that will be due to you.

The new owner must have an NDRHI account with us, they can register for an account by visiting the registration page on the NDRHI register.

We must be made aware by the new owner of the change in ownership of an installation within 12 months of purchase. If the new owner has failed to get in contact with us by 12 months after the date of sale, the accreditation of the installation cannot continue and will be revoked. The installation cannot be re-registered for accreditation once revoked.

Further information on the Relocation and Replacement of NDRHI Accredited installations can be found on our Relocation and Replacements page and in the Guidance Volume 2: Ongoing Obligations and Payments
