Am I eligible for a warm home discount rebate?

As a result of the transfer to the new supplier, you may be eligible for Warm Home Discount (WHD) rebates.

The administration of the warm home discount is now part way through “scheme year 8,” which ends on 31 March 2019. More information on the new supplier’s WHD scheme year 8 rebates is set out below:

Customers of these former suppliers who think they may be eligible for a WHD rebate should note the following with regards to scheme year 8 of WHD.

Core Group:

Former Spark Energy customers: If you have not already received a Core Group rebate you can contact the Department of Work and Pensions Warm (DWP) Home Discount Team on 0800 731 0214 advising that you are now a customer of OVO Energy. The deadline date to claim a Warm Home Discount Scheme rebate is the 28th February 2019. If you are eligible the DWP will issue a notice to OVO Energy requiring them to pay this rebate to you by 31 March 2019. You can also find out details from OVO Energy’s website.

Former Extra Energy customers: While Scottish Power is obligated to provide Core Group rebates to eligible customers, former Extra Energy customers would not be entitled to receive this rebate in scheme year eight (SY8) if they were not customers of an obligated supplier on the SY8 Core Group qualifying date of 8th July 2018.

Broader Group:

Ofgem is currently in discussions with OVO Energy and Scottish Power to ensure former Spark Energy and Extra Energy customers have the opportunity to apply for this rebate from their new supplier.

Former Spark Energy customers: If you have not already received a Broader Group rebate from Spark Energy you may be entitled to apply for a rebate from OVO Energy. Details on OVO Energy’s Broader Group Scheme can be found on the OVO Energy's WHD website.

However please note that OVO Energy are not required to take on Spark Energy’s broader group obligation for SY8. Whilst former eligible Spark Energy customers may be eligible for a broader group rebate from OVO Energy, they are not guaranteed one, even if they received this rebate from Spark Energy in the past.

Former Extra Energy customers: Whilst Extra Energy were not required to pay Broader Group rebates under scheme year 8 of WHD, Scottish Power are obligated. As such you may now be eligible to receive a broader group rebate. Details on Scottish Power’s Broader Group Scheme can be found on the Scottish Power's WHD website.
