Transforming connections data

Consultation description

This consultation builds on the decisions we have made in our previous consultation, Connections end-to-end review: updated proposals and next steps.

We are seeking views on proposals to introduce new datasets, including a demand capacity register and distribution works report, and to improve existing connections and network reinforcement datasets. The consultation also seeks views on cross-cutting issues, including interoperability, data standards, data quality, and approaches to data publication and governance.

This consultation forms part of Ofgem's Transforming Connections Data programme, which has evolved from Theme 1 of the Connections end-to-end review.

Your views will help to shape the proposed policy changes before we start to draft and roll-out new regulatory requirements in early 2027.

Who should respond

We would like to hear from individuals and organisations that publish, manage, analyse or rely on electricity connections data, including:

• electricity network companies (including transmission and distribution network operators)
• National Energy System Operator (NESO)
• connecting customers, including electricity project developers
• Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs)
• grid consultants and connection service providers
• people working in digital innovation, data providers and software developers
• energy sector trade associations and representative bodies
• local authorities, government bodies and strategic planning organisations
• investors, infrastructure owners and other users of electricity connections data
