Connections end-to-end review: updated proposals and next steps​

Details of outcome 

We have considered responses to our consultation, alongside further engagement with connecting customers, network companies, the National Energy System Operator (NESO) and other stakeholders.  

We have decided to take forward two linked programmes of work from the connections end-to-end review. These are Transforming Connections Data and Transforming the Connections Experience.  

Transforming Connections Data covers theme 1 and focuses on improving the transparency, consistency, and quality of connections data. We have decided to introduce new datasets, improve existing publications and support greater consistency across connections data. 

Transforming the Connections Experience covers themes 2 to 5 and 7, and focuses on improving service standards, transparency and the timely delivery of connections. We have decided to introduce clearer and more consistent minimum standards, strengthen accountability for delivery and enhance customer redress where issues arise.

We are now consulting on these two programmes and would like views on the design, scope and implementation before we develop the regulation requirements and guidance.

Consultation description

This consultation follows on from responses received to the first consultation in November 2024. 

The document is part a consultation on further proposed changes and part a set of decisions for implementation, on changes to the regulatory framework around electricity grid connections. 

Who should respond

We particularly welcome responses from regulated parties including network companies and the National Electricity System Operator (NESO), as well as connecting customers at all voltage levels. 

We would also welcome responses from other stakeholders and the public.
