In response to the rising cost of energy, the government has announced a package of support to help households with rising energy bills, worth £9.1 billion in 2022-23 – this includes the Energy Bill Support Scheme (EBSS) . The EBSS is intended to provide support by giving £200 credit to help with energy bills in October 2022 for domestic electricity customers in Great Britain.
Based on the BEIS policy consultation, Energy suppliers will apply the grant payment to customers’ accounts, with the government recovering the grant via a levy. From April 2023, this levy will be gradually recovered from customer bills through network charges.
A number of supporting licence changes are required to implement the EBSS scheme. This consultation outlines Ofgem’s scope, proposed licence conditions and questions of the consultation and how you can respond.
