Energy scams

Sometimes a scammer might try to contact you by knocking on your door, calling you on the phone, approach you via social media, email, a pop-up message on a website, or a text message pretending to be from Ofgem. For example, they may suggest you switch your energy supplier or ask for your bank details.

Check if you’ve been scammed

Here are some things to be aware of:

  • Ofgem will never sell you energy, ask for personal information, your personal bank details, or come to your property
  • if you suspect you have been contacted by someone pretending to be from Ofgem reject, refuse or ignore the contact
