Statutory consultation on smart meter guaranteed standards of performance

Details of outcome

In March and August 2025, we consulted on the introduction of smart meter Guaranteed Standards of Performance (GSOPs). The August 2025 consultation included a draft Statutory Instrument to amend the existing regulations with four new standards in specific areas of smart metering. 

We are now publishing our decision regarding these smart meter GSOPs, with three of these standards coming into effect from 23 February 2026.

Background 

In March 2025 we consulted on the introduction of smart meter guaranteed standards (GSOPs). This new statutory consultation sets out our response to the feedback received and our minded to position going forward.  

Who should respond 

We would like views from people with an interest in smart metering. We particularly welcome responses from: 

• energy suppliers
• other interested industry parties
• consumer groups
• charities 

We also welcome responses from other stakeholders and the public.
