We are consulting on our project assessment of National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Hackney Waltham Cross Upgrade Project.

Consultation description

National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Hackney Waltham Cross Upgrade Project (HWUP) is a project under the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) mechanism in the RIIO-2 Price Control Framework. At the project assessment stage, we review and ultimately set revenue and outputs associated with delivery of an ASTI project.

HWUP consists of uprating 19.5km of overhead lines between Hackney, Tottenham and Waltham Cross substation, from existing 275kV to 400kV, and reconductoring of the 29km route between Pelham-Rye house and Waltham Cross.

The project is triggered by the need to provide reinforcement of the route between Pelham and Hackney substations to accommodate increases in future generation.

NGET are reinforcing the network to meet future demand, boost energy security and help the nation become more self-sufficient.

Who should respond
