Prepayment rules and protections: a call for evidence
In January 2023, we announced a package of work focused on PPM. As well as investigating recent reports of poor supplier practice, we are also reviewing the relevant licence conditions and guidance to consider what else they should cover to further protect consumers, particularly vulnerable consumers.
We are now calling for evidence from all interested parties on the relevant licence conditions and guidance covering:
- Identification of vulnerabilities;
- PPM Safe and Reasonably Practicable rules and guidance; and
- Processes in place for installing or switching customers to PPM.
We are requesting responses on these points by 7 March 2023.
We are also asking for views on further measures that could reduce the need for PPMs to be installed, such as load limiting (which would enable suppliers to limit debt without resorting to forced conversion to PPM), or improve the PPM experience for customers.
