Details of outcome

We have decided to approve changes to Uniform Network Code modification 0886V. The change will mean that the code cut-off date will move from an annual change to a monthly rolling change.

Start date

The changes will start from 1 April 2026.

Code modification description

UNC0886V introduces a change to the way the code cut-off date is managed by shifting from an annual update to a monthly rolling basis. This modification intends to smooth out reconciliation activity throughout the year, reduce the risk of bottlenecks and operational strain caused by bulk submissions around the annual Line in the Sand (LIS) update. The proposal aligns with the increase of smart meters and aims to modernise settlement processes.

The change was raised by SSE Energy Supply Limited. It involves redefining the code cut-off date to be based on calendar months rather than formula years. It also includes operational guidance from the Central Data Service Provider (CDSP), such as submission deadlines and adjustment timelines. UNC0886V is designed to work alongside with UNC0896, which will first shorten the LIS period. These two changes aim to improve efficiency, data quality, and incentivise timely meter readings across the gas industry.

It is important that UNC0896 and UNC0886V are read together.

UNC0896 shortens the reconciliation window, while UNC0886V introduces a monthly rolling update to the code cut-off date. Implemented together, they represent a coordinated effort to modernise gas settlement processes, improve data accuracy, and reduce financial risk across the industry.
