Ofgem is to hold a Warm Home Discount (WHD) Industry Initiative workshop in Birmingham on 13 August 2018.

The purpose of the event is to facilitate dialogue between energy suppliers who participate in the WHD scheme and third party organisations with proposals for specific WHD Industry Initiatives. The WHD scheme has been extended for three years to March 2021. The scheme years will run from:

  • 21 days after commencement of WHD Regulations – 31 March 2019 (SY8)
  • 1 April 2019 – 31 March 2020 (SY9)
  • 1 April 2020 – 31 March 2021 (SY10)

What are Industry Initiatives?

Under the WHD scheme, medium and larger energy suppliers deliver support to people living in fuel poverty or a fuel poverty risk group. Suppliers can choose to deliver some of this support through Industry Initiatives, usually in partnership with other third party organisations. These are projects that help assist customers through a range of activities that aim to help with energy bills or energy usage.

An Industry Initiative must be an activity permitted under Schedule 4 of the Warm Home Discount regulations (the Warm Home Discount Regulations 2011 as amended by the Warm Home Discount (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2018). How will the event work?

Third parties will be able to meet a range of participating energy suppliers and propose specific ideas for Industry Initiatives. Third parties should ensure their proposals meet the requirements outlined in our draft guidance, so that a supplier willing to become involved in the project will be able to take it forward as soon as possible.

The event will run from 10:30-13:00 and take place at Jurys Inn, 245 Broad Street, Birmingham, B1 2HQ.
