Decision

Legislation confirming the closure of the Northern Ireland Renewables Obligation (NIRO) to large scale (i.e. greater than 5MW) onshore wind from 1 April 2016 was passed by the Northern Ireland Assembly on 15 March 2016, and was made on 16 March 2016. We have now published our draft guidance explaining how we will administer this closure and the process for applying for the grace periods that will be available.

This draft guidance is for Northern Ireland generators who may be affected by the closure of the Northern Ireland Renewables Obligation to onshore wind on 1 April 2016. It is being published in draft for stakeholders to provide feedback on.

Please send your response to REDevelopment@ofgem.gov.uk or RE Development Team, Ofgem, 9 Millbank, London, SW1P 3GE.

We will update this document based on feedback from stakeholders and publish the final version as soon as possible after the closing date of the consultation.
