We have published our first guidance on the use of artificial intelligence in the energy sector for licensees, other industry stakeholders and consumer groups. We are encouraging all energy companies to use this good practice guidance as they roll out AI-enabled systems.

AI technology is innovative and rapidly evolving. It is already in use in many parts of the energy sector.

Our guidance will help ensure that use of the technology is safe, secure, sustainable and fair.

AI will support transformation and modernisation of the energy sector. For example, AI can enhance customers' experience, in billing and customer service. When it comes to AI use, customers will remain protected under their existing consumer rights.

The new guidance sets out good practice for companies to adopt, making sure customers are protected and not disadvantaged.

We will keep reviewing this guidance and updating it as necessary as AI develops. We also plan to publish separate guidance for consumers later this year.
