Following the success of our AI regulatory laboratory (AI ‘Reg Lab’) in October 2025, we are now inviting submissions for the next AI Reg Lab taking place on Wednesday 25 February 2026.
Our AI Reg Lab is a table-top exercise that provides applicants with:
- a valuable opportunity to stress test their hypothetical or real AI uses against our current ethical AI use in the energy sector guidance and broader energy regulatory framework
- the chance to explore the potential risks and impacts of their AI use
- a guided discussion of the regulatory implications of the AI use with an independent panel of AI and regulatory experts
Who should take part
Energy sector companies and their innovation partners.
How to take part
We welcome submissions on a rolling basis for future AI Reg Labs via our Ofgem AI Reg Lab submission form.
To be considered for participation in the February 2026 AI Reg Lab, submissions must be received by 11.59pm on Monday 19 January 2026.
Next steps
- Successful applicants will be contacted by the AI Policy team
- To support transparency and shared learning, we will publish findings from each AI Reg Lab engagement.
It is important to note that acceptance into the AI Reg Lab does not constitute regulatory approval, nor does it imply Ofgem’s endorsement of any AI use.
For more information or support with your AI Reg Lab submission, please contact the AI Policy team by emailing AIPolicy@ofgem.gov.uk.
