What is optional monitoring?
You can opt to install a metering monitoring service package (MMSP). This works like a service contract and is a useful way of checking how well the heating system is performing and whether or not it is performing to the level promised by your installer. Applicants who are successful registering an agreement for MMSP receive additional financial support for installing the package and sticking to the agreement. We have worked with the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) to provide a model agreement, which can be found on the RECC website. Applicants must submit the agreement to us as part of their MMSP registration application.
Optional monitoring is different to installing meters for payment, which some applicants and participants are required to do.
Am I eligible for MMSP?
It's only for those with heat pumps or with biomass boilers that are designed and installed to only burn wood pellets (not biomass pellet stoves or any other biomass boilers).
Applicants who applied on or after 22 May 2018 who have heat pumps are required to have metering for performance. They can apply for MMSP to fulfil the metering for performance criteria.
You can register for MMSP regardless of whether your heating system needs to be metered for payments or metered for performance. It doesn't affect your application or payment criteria.
MMSP is useful if you are interested in analysing your heating data to see how your system is performing. You can log on to a website and view the data captured. It’ll help you check if your system is working as efficiently as it should.
How much will I get paid if I am eligible and apply for MMSP?
If you apply for the MMSP at the same time as you apply for the DRHI, you will receive MMSP payment for the full seven years of your installation being accredited. If you apply for MMSP afterwards, you will only get payments for the remainder of the seven years of your RHI lifetime.
Your MMSP payments may stop if your MMSP agreement is ended or terminated, or if we withdraw your registration.
If for some reason you need to move from deemed to metered payments, then MMSP is one of the ways to meet this requirement.
- a single lump sum payment of £805, and MMSP payments of £115 per year (£28.75 every three months) for heat pumps
- a single lump sum payment of £700 and MMSP payments of £100 per year (£25.00 every three months) for biomass pellet boilers
