Current and proposed onshore transmission projects
This is a planned reinforcement on SHET’s network. The Initial Needs Case was submitted to Ofgem on 11 March and is currently under review.
This is a planned cable and substation project on NGET’s network. A Final Needs Case assessment was carried out following submission in late 2021. We published the FNC consultation in June 2022.
The three TOs, SHE-T, SPT and NGET, submitted an Initial Need Case for the proposed Eastern HVDC project in October 2020. We published a decision on the Initial Needs Case in November 2021. The three TOs submitted a Final Need Case in December 2021 and we published the FNC consultation in March 2022, with a decision expected in summer 2022.
This is a proposed substation replacement on NGET’s network. The Final Needs Case was submitted in November 2021 and is currently under review. We expect to consult on our views in summer 2022.

This is a planned reinforcement on SHET’s network. The Initial Needs Case was submitted to us in July 2021 and we published a consultation in December 2021. We have published our INC decision in April 2022. The Final need case is expected to be submitted in summer 2022.
SHE-T submitted the Final Needs Case for the proposed Western Isles project in 2018. Following consultation in March 2019, we published an update in October 2019 that SHE-T’s stated condition for approving the project had not been met. We encouraged SHE-T to work with local stakeholders to consider submitting a revised Final Needs Case. We currently expect to receive an updated Final Needs Case submission in summer 2022.
This is a planned reinforcement project in Yorkshire that NGET submitted an Initial Needs Case for in June 2021. We published our decision on the Initial Needs Case in February 2022. We expect to receive the Final Needs Case submission in summer 2022.
