Onshore transmission project delivery

This is a planned reinforcement on SHE-T’s network. The Initial Needs Case was submitted to Ofgem in March 2022 and we published our decision (Argyll and Kintyre project: Initial Needs Case decision | Ofgem) in September 2022.

We are in currently in conversation with SHE-T regarding the timing of their Final Needs Case submission.

This is a planned cable and substation project on NGET’s network. A Final Needs Case assessment was carried out following submission in late 2021.

We published the FNC decision in August 2022.

We published a consultation on the Project Assessment (PA) in January 2023, and aim to publish our decision in Q2 2023.

The three TOs, SHE-T, SPT and NGET, submitted an Initial Needs Case for the proposed Eastern HVDC project in October 2020. We published a decision on the Initial Needs Case in November 2021. The three TOs submitted a Final Needs Case in December 2021 and we published the FNC decision in July 2022. 

A three-stage Project Assessment commenced in January 2023. We are expecting the full project cost submission in June.

This is a proposed substation replacement on NGET’s network. The Final Needs Case was submitted in November 2021 and is currently under review.

Due to delays in obtaining planning consent we have reviewed the submission as an Initial Needs Case. We published our INC decision in October 2022. 

We accepted and commenced review of the Harker FNC submission in March 2023.

This is a planned reinforcement to the Hackney, Tottenham and Waltham Cross parts of NGET’s network. Due to its planning consent status we have relieved NGET from submission of INC.

The Final Needs Case has been submitted to us in November 2022 and is currently under review.

SHE-T submitted the Final Needs Case for the Orkney project in 2018. Following consultation in December 2018, we approved (Orkney transmission project – Conditional decision on Final Needs Case | Ofgem) the Final Needs Case for the Orkney project in September 2019, subject to certain conditions being met by the end of 2021. We published an update (Orkney transmission project – May 2021 update | Ofgem) in May 2021 where we extended that deadline to the end of 2022.

We published our minded-to Final Needs Case consultation (Orkney Transmission Project – Minded-to consultation | Ofgem) at the beginning of March 2023. This is due to close at the end of March 2023.

This is a subsea cable project that NGET is planning between East Anglia and Kent. The Initial Needs Case is expected to be submitted to us in 2023.

This is a planned reinforcement on SHE-T’s network. The Initial Needs Case was submitted to us in July 2021 and we published our decision (Isle of Skye - Decision on the project’s Initial Needs Case and on its suitability for competition | Ofgem) in April 2022.

The Final Needs Case was submitted to us in December 2022. We are currently assessing the project.

SHE-T submitted the Final Needs Case for the proposed Western Isles project in 2018. Following consultation in March 2019, we published an update in October 2019 that SHE-T’s stated condition for approving the project had not been met. We encouraged SHE-T to work with local stakeholders to consider submitting a revised Final Needs Case. 

In December 2022 we confirmed that the Western Isles project will be included in the initial list of ASTI projects and pre-construction funding will be provided in summer 2023. The project is still being developed and we expect to receive a request for Early Construction Funding in 2023.

This is a planned reinforcement project on NGET’s network in Yorkshire. The Initial Needs Case was submitted to us in June 2021 and we published our decision (Yorkshire GREEN - Decision on the project’s Initial Needs Case and initial thinking on its suitability for competition | Ofgem) in February 2022.

The Final Needs Case was submitted to us in Summer 2022. We published our Final Needs Case consultation (Yorkshire GREEN project - Final Needs Case consultation | Ofgem) in March 2023. This is due to close in April 2023.
