Peterborough Compressor Emissions: re-opener application

Details of outcome

We are publishing our decision on the Compressor Emissions Re-opener application submitted by National Gas Transmission (NGT) to fund the replacement of Unit A at Peterborough Compressor Station in order to achieve compliance with the Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD). This decision has been informed by the responses received following our consultation, which was published on 7 April 2026. 

As part of this decision, we are approving funding of £101.8 million (2018/19 prices) for the project. Alongside this document, we are publishing the direction modifying the value of the relevant licence term to give effect to this decision.

Consultation description 

In June 2025, National Gas Transmission submitted an application for a direction to modify the outputs, delivery dates, and allowances set out in Appendix 2 of Special Condition 3.11, Compressor Emissions Re-opener and Price Control Deliverable.

This consultation sets out our assessment of the evidence presented in the application and the various factors we have considered in reaching our minded-to position.

We are seeking views on our minded-to decision and several specific questions from:

• gas shippers
• consumer groups
• environmental groups
• the public

The responses we receive will be considered before our final decision is issued.
