Proposed licence modifications to enable National Gas to recover costs associated with maintaining and, where appropriate, reinstating gas interconnector import capability between Great Britain and continental Europe.

Consultation description

We are seeking views to modify National Gas Transmission’s licence. If the modifications are agreed, it will mean that National Gas can recover the costs associated with the gas import capability arrangements for Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) using the continental European gas interconnectors.

The proposed licence modifications are part of a wider piece of work to strengthen the gas system to cope with emerging security of supply risks.

National Gas owns and operates Great Britain’s National Transmission System. We have given National Gas permission to make agreements with one or both continental European gas interconnectors. We have separately approved an agreement between National Gas and Interconnector Limited, which operates the gas interconnector between Great Britain and Belgium. However, these decisions do not provide National Gas with a way to recover the associated costs from consumers. This consultation is on the changes needed to enable that cost recovery, and we will consider responses before making our final decision.

You can read the National Gas Transmission plc - Notice of consent under Standard Special Condition A36 and Interconnector Limited - Notice of approval of the Import Capacity Availability Agreement on our public register.
