We are seeking views on the existing gas connections and access arrangements and whether these could better align with strategic planning in our transitional energy system.
Call for input description
The energy system is undergoing widespread transformation, and the gas system is expected to play an essential role in supporting this beyond 2050. The gas system must manage transitional challenges, including declining demand, increased import reliance, diversifying supply sources (biomethane and hydrogen blending), emergent energy-intensive users, and alignment with government policy objectives and strategic energy planning.
We are launching a review of gas connections and access arrangements to ensure they remain fit for the future as the energy system evolves. In particular, we want to understand whether current arrangements provide sufficient flexibility and coordination within a more strategically planned energy system or whether changes may be needed in future. Your feedback will help us develop effective regulation.

We are seeking evidence and views from individuals or organisations with an interest in gas connections, access arrangements or the wider energy system transition. This includes:
- gas transporters
- gas shippers
- existing and prospective gas network users
- National Energy System Operator (NESO)
