The first Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) annual report covers scheme activity from its opening in January 2020 to March 2021. It presents statistics on the range of tariffs offered by Licensees, payments made to Generators, a breakdown of electricity exports by technology type and details on instances of Licensee non-compliance.

Highlights

  • Fourteen electricity suppliers offered a total of twenty-one tariffs throughout SEG Year 1. All tariffs were export only and offered a flat rate of return.
  • Only one supplier had a higher rate tariff available for those meeting certain conditions. This was in addition to their SEG tariff, which was available to all eligible Generators.
  • 4,593 Generators signed up to a SEG tariff in 2020-21, with a Total Installed Capacity of 19,195 kW.
  • Exports totalled 2,568,810 kWh with Generators receiving £114,480.37 in payments.
  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) made up all but one of the 4,593 installations for SEG Y1, with micro-CHP making up the one remaining installation. No registrations for other technology types were made.

Please note: For those wishing to look at the data used in the report in more detail, the accompanying datasheet provides access to anonymised details of all installations registered on the SEG. Tables featured in the report and the data used to generate any charts are also provided.
