Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather events. It is also driving changes to average weather conditions. Great Britain’s energy infrastructure must be prepared for these changes.
Ofgem’s climate resilience report sets out our view of progress on climate resilience in the energy sector and how we support those we regulate to manage risks.
There is more to do to ensure our future energy system is resilient to climate change. The report outlines Ofgem’s priorities for addressing outstanding challenges.
Our principle objectives are:
- to work with the sector and government to accelerate setting goals for climate resilience
- to strengthen climate considerations in upcoming regulatory decisions
This publication has been prepared in response to Defra’s request to report via the fourth round of climate change adaptation reporting (ARP4) of the Climate Change Act 2008. It has been prepared in line with Defra’s guidance for regulators.
