On 16 June 2025, Ofgem confirmed its proposal to impose a financial penalty on Farringdon Energy Limited (Farringdon) requiring it to pay £214,580.00 for breaching Standard Licence Condition 4A (SLC 4A), operational capability. The penalty was in addition to £9,096.00 of goodwill payments made by Farringdon to affected customers.
On 9 May 2024, the Authority issued a Provisional Order to Farringdon, in accordance with section 25(2) of the Electricity Act 1989, as it appeared to the Authority that Farringdon was contravening, or likely to contravene, SLC 4A. On 6 November 2024, Ofgem proposed a financial penalty on Farringdon Energy Limited (Farringdon), requiring it to pay £223,676.00 for breaching SLC 4A, in relation to the Provisional Order.
The penalty relates to our findings that Farringdon had taken, and was continuing to take, direct debit payments, for non-domestic supply of electricity, from customers it was either no longer supplying electricity to, or had not commenced supplying. The Director, with responsibility for Enforcement at Ofgem, made the above decision having carefully heard and considered representations from Farringdon, submitted on 16 November 2024, in response to the notice of proposal to impose a penalty.
The Authority gives notice of its decision under section 27A(5) of the Electricity Act 1989.
