The Renewables Obligation annual report for the year ending 31 March 2014. Key areas of interest may include:
Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs) issued and renewable generation
- We issued 62.8 million ROCs compared to 44.3 million in 2012/13.
- We issued more ROCs than the total supplier obligation (61.9 million), this is the first time this has ever happened , and is due to extremely windy months between October 2013 and March 2014.
- This represented 49.6 TWh of renewable generation, equivalent to 16.3% of the total electricity supplied in the UK, an increase from 11.2% in 2012/13.
- 24.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions were avoided from renewable generation under the scheme, a 42.7% increase from 17.3 million tonnes in 2012/13.
Supplier compliance and scheme value
- All suppliers complied with their obligations.
- 60.8 million ROCs were presented by suppliers, which is 98.2% of the total obligation (the highest proportion since the RO began).
- The amount of buy-out and late payments were the smallest ever - £42.4 million was redistributed to suppliers.
- Each ROC was worth £42.72 (recycle value was £0.70 + £42.02 buy-out price).
Generating stations
- We accredited 4,068 generating stations, a significant increase from 2012/13 when we accredited 892.
- The aggregate capacity of the stations we accredited was 2,836 MW - solar and offshore represent around 1 GW each, most of the remainder was onshore wind.
- 99% of accreditations for microgenerators in Northern Ireland were for solar PV.
