In April 2020, Ofgem started measuring the impacts of Covid-19 social distancing on domestic energy consumption, financial wellbeing and the concerns of energy consumers around managing bills.

This report is the October update of our research. It summarises results from polling carried out in October 2020 and compares findings with previous polling waves. The research was carried out with domestic energy bill payers living in Great Britain and was conducted by Ipsos-MORI on behalf of Ofgem.

Since the Covid-19 crisis began in March, Ofgem’s response has been guided by our overriding objectives: protecting consumers, especially the vulnerable, ensuring secure energy supplies and maintaining the safety of customers and the workforce. We have taken action to respond as quickly as possible to the impacts, and will continue to do so as the situation develops.
