As part of the annual competition for funding under the Electricity Network Innovation Competition the Expert Panel will advise the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority on its decision over which Project(s) should be awarded funding. The panel brings knowledge and expertise covering energy network industries, environmental policy, technical and engineering issues, economics and finance, and consumer interests.
The panel members are:
Jo Armstrong (Chair)
Jo is an independent economist with more than 30 years’ commercial experience. Having worked in both international structured finance and the oil and gas industry, Jo now advises regulatory bodies and provides microeconomic and public policy analysis for clients in the public, private and charitable sectors. She is an Honorary Professor of public policy at the Adam Smith Business School at the University of Glasgow and is a Fellow at the Institute of Directors and the RSA.
Prof. Nick Jenkins
Nick is the Director of the Institute of Energy within the School of Engineering at Cardiff University. Before moving to academia, his career included 14 years industrial experience of which 5 years were spent in developing countries. He is a fellow of the IET, IEEE and Royal Academy of Engineering and from 2009-2011 was the Shimizu Visiting Professor to the Atmosphere and Energy Program at Stanford University.
Alan is currently a non-executive board member of Scottish Water and chair of Viking Energy Shetland. He is also an advisor in the utilities industry. He was formerly Managing Director of Energy Networks and Generation at Scottish Power. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and has served as a non-executive director of Iberdrola USA in New York.
Jiggy Lloyd is an independent strategic adviser on environmental policy and sustainable development. She works with corporate clients, the public sector and NGOs. Her background includes the extractive industry and senior executive roles in international utility groups. She also sits RIIO-ET1 Environmental Discretionary Reward Panel.
Jeff’s executive background is in leadership positions with consumer-facing businesses such as Colgate and Mars. He also has a portfolio of non-executive roles spanning private, public, and third sectors - especially where there is a social purpose to the organisation, and/or a consumer interest. These include roles as Chair of Transport Focus, as Chair of Anglian Water’s Customer Engagement Forum and as Chair of Heathrow Airport’s Consumer Challenge Board.
