Get help with your home or business energy bills
Where to get help if you are struggling to pay for the energy you use at home, or for your small business or microbusiness.
Get help from your energy supplier
If you are struggling to pay for energy or think you may get into difficulty, you can ask your supplier to:
- agree a payment plan, payment break or reduction
- review your current payments and debt repayments
- give you access to financial support, called ‘hardship funds’
Energy supplier schemes and grants
Ask your supplier if they have any schemes or grants that can help with:
- energy costs
- paying off energy debt
- making energy-saving improvements to your home
You can contact them online, in writing or by phone. Details on how to do this should be on their website or on your energy bills.
If you feel like you have not had the support you need, you can complain about your energy supplier.

You can also apply for temporary protection from your creditors, meaning they will not be able to take any action to recover what you owe them. This will give you time to get advice on what to do next.
