Heat networks: what data needs to be reported

Reporting requirements apply to information about your organisation and information about your heat networks.

You may need to provide information about:

  • customers
  • billing and pricing
  • debt
  • vulnerability
  • operational performance
  • financial resilience

Organisation-level data reporting

Organisation-level data is information about the organisation itself, such as its financial resilience. Organisation-level data relates to the authorised person. This is the organisation or entity authorised to be the operator, supplier, or both.

You submit this information once per annual submission window. You do not need to submit it separately for each heat network, unless the reporting requirements state otherwise.

Heat network-level data reporting

Heat network-level data relates to an individual heat network, for example the number of customers on a heat network.

You must submit this information separately for each relevant heat network, according to the reporting requirements and any applicable exemptions.

If you operate or supply more than one heat network, check whether a data point must be reported at organisation-level or heat network-level before preparing your submission. This will help you avoid reporting information incorrectly.

Data reporting tables

Our regular data reporting guidance contains:

  • a table of organisation-level data points
  • a table of heat network-level data points

For each data point, the tables explain:

  • a description of the information you need to provide
  • how often you need to report it (annually or quarterly)
  • whether it’s required by the operator, supplier, or both
  • any heat network types that are exempt from reporting that data point, for example self-supply networks
  • any consumer types that do not need to be included in the data submission, such as microbusinesses
