In June 2014 we referred the energy market for investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). We referred the market as we didn’t think competition was working as well as it could for consumers.
The CMA published its final report on 24 June 2016. The report contains over 30 remedies, of which 26 contain recommendations for Ofgem to act. There is also associated work including supporting the implementation of remedies and monitoring progress and compliance with new processes.
Ofgem’s next steps
In August 2016 we published an open letter on our Implementation Strategy. This outlined our approach, priorities and key milestones, together with how we will engage with stakeholders. We have now also published our detailed Implementation Plan.
We will work to implement the final remedies to ensure benefits are maximised for consumers. You can access further publications and outputs relevant to our resulting programme of work in the publications and update feed below.
