This scheme has now closed.
The Government Electricity Rebate (GER) partially refunded all domestic electricity customers for the cost of the government’s environmental policies.
The GER obligated licensed electricity suppliers to add a £12 rebate to bills in the autumns of 2014 and 2015. The total value of these rebates was estimated to be worth a total of £620 million.
The scheme was a two year scheme and ran in 2014 and 2015 only and will not run from 2016 onwards.
Background
The scheme followed the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s 2013 autumn statement, where the government outlined its plan to reduce the cost of its environmental policies on domestic energy customers.
