Nuclear Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model

Details of our role in regulating companies licensed to build nuclear energy infrastructure.

The Nuclear Energy (Financing) Act 2022 introduced the option of a Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model to help fund future nuclear energy projects.

The Act named Ofgem as the economic regulator for companies building nuclear energy infrastructure under this model.

This is a similar role to the one we play for gas and electricity networks.

We have been advising the UK government as it develops an economic regulatory regime for nuclear RAB licensees.

See their explanation of the RAB model for more information on how it works and what it means for energy suppliers and consumers.
