Guidance for energy suppliers to take part in trials for an energy tariff that has a separate part to the standing charge.
We want to hear from energy suppliers who want to test a tariff design with their customers. The tariff design has a standing charge that is split into two. One part will vary with their electricity usage during peak periods.
We expect the trial to go live by 1 October 2025 and finish 1 March 2026.
Customers of energy suppliers who choose to take part in the trial will be able to reduce their daily standing charge if they use less energy at peak times.
The aim of the trial is to assess whether a structure can:
- encourage consumers to shift usage away from peak period
- understand better how consumers respond to novel standing charge structures
- maintain effective system cost recovery
- provide consumers with greater control over their bills
- support long-term network planning and investment

Domestic energy suppliers.
How to take part
Tell us why you want to take part. Your submission should include:
- your capacity to launch the trial by 1 October 2025, or your earliest feasible date
- willingness to include a sufficient base of eligible customers
- any trial features you would be unable to support
- willingness to collaborate under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) including sharing required usage data
- willingness to support the User Experience Study, including qualitative and quantitative research with customers
- willingness to work with Ofgem to publish the trial results
